From the moment we breathe our first breath we are in a battle. It's all about ME. Selfishness. My wants. My desires. My ideas. I am most important. It can be so hard to get outside of ourselves and to allow ourselves to understand that there is more to this life than ME. This is something that I know I have battled and continue to battle, but it is something that I know I can change by devoting my life to God. Many of us, including good Christian people, believe that our ideas and plans are the most important. We fail to realize that it is by the grace of God that we have anything (I Corinthians 15:10). It is because of the love that God has for us that we have the freedom to choose what we want to do and what we want to think. That goes for everyone. Even those who don't think like me. It can become extremely disappointing to me when I try so hard to think of others first, and then others fail to do the same. (This is where I have to watch my pride...please understand I am not saying I have it all figured out) I have to remind myself that we are all human; we are all going to be selfish a majority of the time. Just because it is easier for me to think of others doesn't mean it is easy for someone else. Just like it may be easier for them to resist fried chicken, I can tell you that is not the case for me. :)
As a parent, I continue to see that the example I set for my child is important. Because I know of those that I will have the greatest influence on is my own family. I really think all of us (for the most part) have good intentions. But, I am also aware that Satan can talk up a good game. He can make us believe that our selfishness is
ok, because we know what is best. Today, I want to challenge you to get outside of yourself more often. I will
guarantee that when you do you will be able to understand yourself better. Who knows, you maybe like me and see that you need to change some things. But, be aware that Satan will tell you that you look fine and that no changes are necessary to make you any better.
After all, who knows you better than yourself?
This thought was brought on by my readings today.
Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." Proverbs 19:21
