Last night the MHYG took its second Field Trip of Faith. If you don't know what that is, here you go....we have started a Wednesday night series for our 7th-12th grades and at least once a month we use our class time to take a "field trip" that will bring a real side to our faith. So far it has gone really well.
Last night we went to Friendship Christian Schools football stadium, I had worked it out beforehand with one of their coaches to have the lights on when we got there. Keep in mind that no one but myself and those helping me know where we are going when we leave the church building. So as we headed out I could hear the conversations brewing. As we got closer and could see the lights turned on at the stadium some were probably getting close to figuring it out!! Once we arrived I had everyone unload the bus and head to the 50 yard line to stand in the center of the field. The lights were on and it was just us at the middle of the field. We were on DISPLAY. That night I had Josh Derr (our inside connection) talk about the preparation it takes to get ready to play on any given Friday night...he did a great job. He talked about all the hard work that goes in during the week and how games are really won Monday thru Thursday at practice. Then I had the teens set in the stands....then we went from being on DISPLAY to actually looking at our lives and faith as if it were on DISPLAY. We talked about no matter how popular we were or thought we were someone somewhere was looking up to us. We discussed that each and every decision we made could not only effect our lives, but the lives of others as well. We came to understand that no matter what we are always on DISPLAY, much like an athlete on a field.
In Matthew 5:14-16, we see that Jesus has called us to DISPLAY his light through us. In this passage, Christ encourages us to "let our lights shine" and by doing that God is glorified. See being on DISPLAY is not all that bad. We can help spread the light of God throughout the world by allowing it to shine through us. That is our calling and that is what we should DISPLAY!! It is my prayer that I will allow God's light to always shine through me and I hope that you will do the same!!
Shine On- Nick
