Psalm 116...."Simplehearted"

This morning the ministry team got together to spend some time in study and prayer. I find myself appreciating this time more and more with each passing opportunity to study with these fellow brothers in Christ. During our studies we have been going through the book of Psalms, and what a wonderful book it is. Today, my part in our study focused on Psalm 116!

As I read over this passage my mind began to focus on one thought in verse 6, it reads, "The LORD protects the simplehearted, when I was in great need, he saved me." The "simplehearted"! I began to think, "I don't know if I have ever even heard of or much less ever used the term "simplehearted". I am well aware of the term simpleminded, but "simplehearted". So I began to search out the meaning, and its simple (LOL), it means the heart of a child or childlike. The LORD protects the "simplehearted"! He protects those that have not flooded their hearts with all of the junk this world has us to believe is important. I began to think of children and how as a child when I was in trouble or needed help I could always look to my parents and they would rescue me. I never as a small child thought, "well maybe I can do it alone", "or if I give myself time I can work it out". But instead I looked to my parents to rescue me, to save me!! I think it is plain to see that the psalmist is saying here that the "simplehearted" look to God in the rough and tough times. Dr. Phil, Oprah, and now Dr. Oz don't have the answers, but only God!! This was a light bulb moment for me, it made me realize that when Jesus said only those with hearts like these little children can enter heaven, he meant it, he meant "simplehearted"!

I am definitely a work in progress, but I know this world would be a better place if we all looked to our Heavenly Father when we needed rescuing!! I know our lives would be in better shape! I know divorce would not be an option, I know all the temptations that Satan tricks us with could be faced more confidently if we looked to God for safety!! God our Father has sent us Jesus as that ultimate example, and he has given all of us His Holy Spirit to be out guides, but we must use them and let them guide our lives!! Make it a goal of yours to be "simplehearted", a heart that is childlike and focuses on the Father as the ultimate source of safety!!

  1. I might paraphrase "simplehearted" and apply it to my life and say, "The Lord helps the morons!" Thanks for your good message.
