"Show me YOUR glory..."

Studying God's word always seems to be a great blessing to me. I will have to admit there are many times that I have to make myself or I guess it would sound better if I said discipline myself to take time to study. But, there is no doubt that every time I do, I come away blessed. One day as I was preparing for a class I was reading a book by Max Lucado ("Its Not About Me: Teen Edition), and I came across some scripture in Exodus chapter 33. After reading this passage my mind focused on vs 17 and 18, this is what they say.... "And the Lord said to Moses. 'I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.' Then Moses said, 'Now show me your glory.'"

I want you to think about what has just happened! Moses was a man chosen by God to lead the Israelites to the land of promise, Moses was a leader that had seen many things at God's hand, and up until this point Moses had completed every task that God had set out for him. Now he comes pleading to God for some help, and God answered. Look at what Moses asked....he did not ask for a quick fix or for God to zap them on the fast track to Canaan, but he wanted God to show him HIS glory. Not Moses' glory! God's glory!

This passage makes me think about my life. Number 1: I am I living the life I need to live for God each and every day. The kind of life that when I come to God with a bold request that he will answer my request, not because I asked, but because God knows me and is well pleased with me!! Number 2: When I get the chance or the opportunity to talk to God in prayer are my requests selfish or me centered? Am I looking only at the interests of myself and my surroundings or do I ask God to "Show me HIS glory!"

I think we can take a lot away from this chapter in Exodus. We can see that it is ok to be bold and make our requests known to God, and I also think it is a great lesson in that when we have spent time with God and when "He knows us and is pleased with us" our requests mean all the more!!

My prayer today is that I will ask God to show me HIS glory! It is also my prayer that I will do my job and reflect it for others to see!!

Glorify God-
Nick
